He is suffering from gastric ulcers - weak bc losing blood into the stomach bc of the ulcer. Treatment by various methods, shown later in the lecture. Defects, sores, open wounds in the stomach and the duodenum - called peptic ulcers overall. He has anemia because he was slowly bleeding --> ulcers can go deep into the mucosal layer where it goes down to the capillary and submucosal leve. Can have perforated ulcer that goes into the peritoneal cavity, which is a medical emergency. If it"s a du, you can have blood in your stool as a symptom of it. Prior to 1985, it was thought that the sores in the stomach can be due to spicy foods or stress.
