Someone in florence set up about 50 people in a room, and one person read out a text, and all the people would write it down: mass production. Issue of type; ink; and paper [technological and financial problem] y 15th century y y all conceptual parts of printing come from china or the far east y. Early printer: active in 15th century (around 1450: comes up with the idea of a moveable metal type that you can use and re-assemble in other ways y. Scholarship becomes comparative (several different versions and languages to probe) Language develops more; particularly the vernacular the content of the books: schools, upper middle class, etc. y censorship starts to emerge: authority as a literary paradigm, henry viii in 1526, and francis i in 1532.
