Narrative: a chain of events linked by cause and effect and occurring in time and space. Film narrative: cause and effects relationship, beginning, middle, end, equilibrium - disequilibrium - Equilibrium three act structure: connect with 5 principles of form. Story, is the entire narrative of the film. Incorporating both those events which are depicted on screen and those which we infer as having occurred. Plot, in contrast, is the ordering and presentation of those events as they occur in the film. Diegesis refers to the world of the story. Non-diegesis refers to elements outside the story world story: explicitly presented + implied events. Plot: explicitly presented events + additional non-diegetic material. Characters serve as the primary causal agents. Narrative time is governed by three variables: order, duration and frequency. These three-variable s often account for differences between plot and story. Narration is the process by which plot presents story information to the viewer.
