Phosphorylation is important in change of structure of enzymes. Start a table for which are activated and which are deactivated: glycogen is large polysaccharide that stores glucose in muscles and liver cells. Epinephrine and glucagon catabolic hormones signal for breakdown. Insulin is anabolic hormone leading to building up of larger structures: glycogen is polysaccharide that stores extra glucose for later after meals, when not needed for energy at the time (i. e. , during starvation) Fat stores also store carbons for later: ep and glucagon help with breakdown of triacylglycerol molecules. It"s also broken down to generate huge amount of atp: break down of glycogen to glucose citric acid cycle and oxidative phosphorylation. Two different hormones signal for similar effects to break down glycogen but different downstream goals.
