Document Summary

Bio230 lecture 11 - protein sorting - glycosylation intracellular vesicular. Most soluble and transmembrane proteins enter er are glycosylated. Two types of glycosylation occur on proteins: (differ in terms of enzymes that do glycosylation and on which amino acid the sugars are added to) Occurs on most soluble and transmembrane membranes. N-linked oligosaccharide precursor that"s already preformed in er. Oligosaccharide made up of different monosaccharides (glucose, mannose, Oligosaccharide is linked onto proteins in er. Once protein makes it into er, oligosaccharide transferred onto asparagines of protein. Protein being synthesized and sorted to er (see cytosol, er membrane, er lumen) Ribosome translates protein, pushes it through translocator complex. In er have performed oligosaccharide precursor linked to lipid. Oligosaccharide transferred onto asparagine residue of protein being synthesized in er membrane. Predominantly asparagine that fall in specific amino acid sequence. X is any amino acid except proline.
