Document Summary

Codons are read as mrna triplets: redundancy with multiple codons for most amino acids, agg: start codon. Same rna, different aa sequence because reading frames differ: read 3 at a time. The link between mrna and protein sequence trna molecules: binds to phe phenoalanine, average of 80 nucleotides in length, anti-codon basepairs with codon in complimentary antiparallel manner, d loop: post transcriptional modifications. Put proper aa in place for right codon. Some bases modified after transcription: = pseudou(cid:396)adi(cid:374)e. 2 strategies: more than 1 trna for many aas. Some trnas can recognize and base pair w/ more than one codon. 2 sequential steps in ensuring fidelity: trna synthetase. Creates high energy ester bond that links aa to right trna: very specific, gives process certain degree of accuracy, once an aa is attached, it gets flipped from synthesis to editing site in the ribosome. Sometimes some aa are very similar so the wrong aa can get attached.
