The reasons why natural selection produces deeply imperfect organisms. Tradeo s beans being good at x may necessarily imply being bad at y. Natural selection works with tinkering with existing structures and as so, it doesn"t lead to perfection. And the body is littered with dead genes that were once active to code for now dead adaptations. Water stress - kangaroo rat in the sonoran desert. They are bi pedal as they jump on their hind legs instead of scurry around. They do not need to drink water if they have an adequate diet of seeds. This is because of the series of adaptations that work towards this. the water comes from their seed diet but seeds has little water but a lot of lipid content. The rats can metabolize the fats into water molecules. And from this, they get water but not a lot so they have to be conservative.
