Survival of the fittest: only the strong should survive. Natural selection: environmental pressures allow certain beneficial traits to be passed on the future generations. Evolution: biological process by which genetic mutations are selected for and against through environmental pressures. Social darwinism: spencer assertion that societies evolve according to the same principles as bio organisms. Laissez faire: a point of view that opposes regulation of the interference with natural processes. Humans originate in the collective rather than the individual. Collective conscience: durkheim"s concept highlighting the totality of beliefs and sentiments that are common to the average person in society. Social facts: general social features that exist on their onward are independent of individual manifestations. Anomie: state of normal that results from a lack of clear goals and may ultimately result in higher suicide rates. Mechanized solidarity: organized around people"s similarities but they were still independent of each other since they were largely self sufficient.
