Document Summary
Soca03y - lecture 05 - research, methodology and ethics. In regards to choosing data resources, and people that will be needed for the study, many aspects need to be considered. Example of quantitative method approach: predictors of racist attitudes (wodtke) (https://www. ncbi. nlm. nih. gov/pmc/articles/pmc4845100/) Example of qualitative method approach: women converting to judaism (davidman) (https://www. ucpress. edu/book/9780520075450/tradition-in-a-rootless-world). Example of a combined method approach: working-class university students (granfield) (http://journals. sagepub. com/doi/pdf/10. 1177/089124191020003005) Taken from lecture 5, slide 4 powerpoint. Quantitative approaches (macro: statistical analysis to determine significant relationships between variables, there is a hypothesis involved deductive (theory to data) Generally, deductive is used within quantitative and qualitative with inductive, but data can be limiting and therefore the approaches can be switched. Also, these methods could be combined under certain circumstances that require both macro and micro approaches. Correlation does not imply causality just because something looks as if they are related and seems to have a relationship to one another does not actually mean there is a correlation.
