Inhalants: toluene is one of the most psychoactive inhalants that can produce intoxicating effects, nonetheless they are volatile substance (e. g. can be found at home or in workplace products). Volatile solvents are the ones mostly abused, and are hydrocarbons as chemical components with some variations in their structures. 1993 in newfoundland, labrador where children in impoverished environments were found to be huffing gasoline, in the native community. The lung is the interface and does not take very long for these drugs to reach their site of actions, as they are much more lipid soluble and cross the bbb with ease. Have similar effects as ethanol (e. g. depressant) and they seem to have nmda receptor antagonism and gabaa modulation. Physiological dependence- are the effects long lasting enough and have an impact (e. g. inhalants must be used for long periods to suffer any withdrawal which tend to be general weak).
