The solidification of your identity is something other cultures don"t really worry about: collectivist cultures don"t really have just 1 identity. An infant progresses from reflexive, instinctual action at birth to the beginning of symbolic thought. The infant constructs an understanding of the world by coordinating sensory experiences with physical action.
