They do not have western idea of sadness but that feeling is labelled differently in western societies. 8 dimensions of appraisal (another way to think of emotion is combination of these appraisals) Secondary appraisals (by using above model combinations, can generate emotions: hope, elevated attention, effort, and agency, moderate pleasantness, little certainty, happiness, pleasant, low effort, high certainty, high attention.
