PSYC14H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Order Of Friars Minor Capuchin, Standard Deviation, Strategic Dominance
Document Summary
Traditionally, people thought that without religion, there is no morality. Scientists think that morality is just one of the adaptations we"ve evolved to navigate the social world. There was a huge controversy at yale 2 years ago. The dean sent out a message to the students to not wear certain halloween costumes that were culturally offensive. Two professors at yale saw this and were upset, so they wrote a letter to the undergraduate students. This is part of the letter that one of the professors wrote. She was basically saying that there should be free speech and tolerance, and that people should just look away or tell someone if they"re offended, and then try to discuss and resolve it. There was a huge moral outrage by the students concerning the position of these two professors. This example shows that the students and professors are taking two different moral standpoints .
