We have to be clear on what the domain of mental imagery is, why it is helpful and the extent to which mental imagery is actually similar if not identical to how we see things visually. When people close their eyes and imagine something in their mind, we assume that everybody sees it the same day you do. We know by visual imagery that there is a lot of variability. Some people cannot see images in their mind, some people see hazy whereas some people see very clear images.
