Two main types of conditioning: respondent conditioning (classical/pavlovian) chapter 3 & chapter 15, operant conditioning chapter 4 chapter 14. Video - classical vs. operant conditioning (discussed further) Key points: respondent behaviors: behaviors that are elicited by prior stimuli & are not affected by their consequences, operant behaviors: behaviors that are modified by their consequences. Increased by reinforcers , decreased by punishers: respondent conditioning: also called classical conditioning/pavlovian conditioning. Involves unconditioned reflexes/involuntary behavior (salivation in response to food), that become paired w/certain stimuli: operant conditioning: also called instrumental conditioning, has to do w/ the consequences of voluntary behaviors.
