Document Summary

Operant conditioning (consequences lead to changes in voluntary beh; daily beh) respondent behaviors: beh that are elicited by prior stimuli (before beh) & aren(cid:495)t affected by their consequences. We salivate bc of something in env food salivate: (reflexes; not learned) Speed limit driving is shaped by learning what it means, the consequences of getting a speeding ticket. Slot machine not rewarded often, but just enough to make you do it again and again. Involves unconditioned reflexes or involuntary behaviour (e. g. , salivation in response to food), that become paired with certain stimuli. Operant conditioning: also called instrumental conditioning, has to do with the consequences of voluntary behaviours. Deals with behaviours that are elicited automatically by some stimulus. No production of a new behaviour (ie. cant learn to blush) Getting an existing behaviour to occur, to different/new stimuli (salivating to a bell instead of food) Learning of new stimulus-response connections, by pairing of stimuli. Elicits a response without prior learning or conditioning.
