How the presence of others effects the way we think, feel and behave. Goal is to explain and predict people"s behaviour: comparing social psych to other social science. Social psych: focuses on how social situations can in uence thought feeling and behaviours of an individuals. Personality psych: focuses on how differences between individuals in uence thoughts feelings and behaviours. Sociology: focuses on behaviour of communities and groups, not individuals, situations can often determine behaviour despite india ideal differences. Ex; nazi soliders were normal people who were in uenced by unusual situations and adapted to their surroundings: milgram"s study of obedience. Experiment was described as a study of learning. Participants were instructed to shock other participants for every wrong answer. (confederate was part of the experiment so it wasn"t real) Even after hearing the cries of the confederate, the participants did not stop, even when the confederate was injured or dead.
