Social psychology the study of social processes; how the presence of others a ects the way we think, feel, and behave; social situations can be real or imaged. Social psychology focuses on how social situations can in uence the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours of an individual. Personality psychology focuses on how stable di erences between individuals in uence thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Sociology focuses on behaviour of communities and groups, not individuals. Situations can often determine behaviour despite individual di erences, especially if the situations are su ciently strong. In an experiment (darley & batson, 1973), almost 90% of seminary students didn"t provide help to someone in need when they were in a rush but 60% did help when not in a rush. Tendency to overestimate the role of personality and to underestimate the role of situations when explaining other people"s behaviour. Usually, the in uences of situational factors aren"t fully recognized.
