Document Summary

B cells are chosen by an antigen because the antigen binds onto that specific receptor: b cells differentiate into either plasma cells or memory cells. Features of acquired immune system: specificity. Very specific to the one antigen that sets it off: diversity. While one antigen may set off one receptor and thus make a type of antibody against that antigen, but the next b cell beside it will respond to another totally different antigen. Body can respond to millions of different substances: memory. Once b cells are activated by antigen, they can either become a memory b cell f an effector cell: self-tolerance. T cells and cell-mediated immunity: t cells look for abnormal cells. They need to interact with a cell to learn about it. That cell can either be an abnormal cell or a phagocyte giving information: t cells bind onto the antigen on a bacteria/virus. Uses t cell receptor to bind to the mhc protein.
