Document Summary
Britain took over canada (from the french) The british also seized havana, cuba (which was owned by the spanish) Also known as the second conquest of mexico. Hospicio de pobres was like a jail for poor people: the poor people would get locked up and were made to do work; they would be doing all of the (forced) labour like construction, military. The maroon slaves (runaway slaves) were recruited into the military. Before the maroon slaves, there were (primarily) criollos in the military: religious. They were seen as a threat to the spanish crown because they were mainly loyal to the pope rather than the king. In 1804, the pious funds (*research*; what did they pay for?) were abolished. The spanish raised a lot of revenue as they brought in a good source of wealth to new spain. These church funds were used to pay off loans which caused a lot of economic crisis.
