Ex: our body is made of water, moisture in the air, water bottles: earth has salty water (not good to drink) How much fresh water is available: very little water is readily available, most accessible type of water = lake and rivers. Stress on the world"s major river basins: water stress, <1700 cubic meters/year/person, water scarcity, <1000 cubic meters/year/person. 2025: withdrawal total amount of water removed from a river, lake or aquifer for any purpose, some may be returned to the source for reuse but not all, some lakes and rivers shrink. The satellite images show the aral sea from 1985-2014 as water was diverted for irrigation, the sea level subsided. How do we use the world"s fresh water: 85% of water use for irrigation is consumed and not returned to its water basin. Average water use in canadian homes (environment canada: showers and bathing -> toilet flushing -> cleaning and kitchen.
