Document Summary

Ecology lecture 8 population growth and regulation. With increase in population, we would lose space and resources to satisfy all the people. Although food is the main concern when it comes to population growth as well as other factors. No population grows in size forever but rather has other factor such as resource, limitation and regulation involved. It is easier to analyze the age, survivorship and all those thing on a cohort group a group that were born at the same time then examine individuals within a group. Type 1: most individuals survive to old age like human and dall sheep. Type 2: the chance of surviving doesn"t vary but instead stays constant throughout a bird"s lifetime. Type 3: there are high death rates for young, but those that reach adulthood survive well. Geometric growth: when a population reproduced in synchrony at discrete time periods and growth rate does not match. The equation of exponential growth is dn/dt = rn.
