Document Summary
Microevolution what is happening within populations or between populations. Macroevolution deep evolutionary lineages; comparison between species; between larger groups of organisms. How do biologists distinguish and categorize the millions of species on. Slow worm (anguis fragilis: presence od scales, cold-blooded, absence of legs, moveable eyelids, immobile jaw, ear openings, autonomy can shed tail, shed skin in patches. There are 6 kingdoms: bacteria, archaea, protista, plantae, fungi, animalia. The six-kingdom classification system recognizes two prokaryotic kingdoms, the bacteria and the archaea. The eukaryotes are divided into 4 kingdoms, the protists, plants, fungi, and animals. The protista is an artificial group containing many different lineages of eukaryotes. Consensus is growing to subsume the six-kingdom system within a three- domain system that better reflects evolutionary relationships: this system places all eukaryotes in a single domain, at the same level as the two prokaryotic domains. Was the first to start classifying organisms based on a branching pattern.
