Introduction: week 1 social constructions of gender: when people enter spaces that"s when the social institutions start having an effect on to people and how they use that structure change. Study of upper class ppl in britain and studied them and saw/ studied how they present themselves in relation with other people who are lower class and how they interact in the front stage & back stage. How people enter a theoretical presentation of self which makes up their identity. You act differently when you want to project a certain image to others. There are certain norms that people perform. Gender is like a performance it is hard to tell what is and what isn"t. Gender is something that we do rather than something that we have. When we do gender we are constantly judged by how well we are doing it. Ways we interact in social situatins, men handshake, women hug. Different cultures do gender differently as well.
