Conceptualization: slippery concept, fundamental to understand how sociological research get done. Unlike tree, rock sociology is social concepts, existing does not really have existence out of nature. Exist: agree on it"s existence, agree about what they are but they don"t exists beyond that agreement. Figuring out the meanings of the concepts that we are interested. Federal level: conservative, liberal, democratic, loose people can affiliate with a party as one way of expressing their political ideology. But there is no right or wrong way. Not interested in one time of thing, things that apply to more groups of people. Different ways, different dynamics of gender, health is complicated, so many ways people can be healthy and unhealthy. First stage: refer to define, process about where we get specific about what we need about the term, identify major dimensions. Two things, two dimension health (physical and mental), can be more than that. Operationalization: process of deciding variables and attributes is called operationalization.
