Document Summary
Short answer examples: infants ssensory experiences in utero can influence their sexual preferences after birth. Brain/neural development: neuron- a cell in the body"s nervous system, sends and receives neural impulses or messages throughout the brain and nervous system. The death of some neurons that surround newly formed: neuronal death synaptic connections; no connections to them, synaptic pruning. Motor development: sequence the same across infants, timing varies (based on experience) Both maturation and experience play a role in motor development. What drives the development of motor abilities: maturational viewpoint, unfolding of genetically programmed series of events, experiential viewpoint, opportunities to practice are important. Fine motor development: voluntary reaching, grasp reflex and pre-reaching (involuntary) 3 months : manipulatory skills, two-handed grasp and ulnar grasp. 4-5 months: pincer grasp (like a crab) Growth slows until spurt in puberty: girls usually go through spurt quicker, cephalocaudal growth, grow from the head down, proximal distal, from the centre outwards.
