Developmental psychology: we have different times during development that are more critical (adolescence, puberty, menopause, certain changes happen during specific stages, core developmental issues. Although we know that they work together, the degree of both: nature vs. nurture is important, maturation, critical periods critical periods of vulnerability. Biological changes occur as we grow and mature. Necessary stimulation is evident in this stage. Brain needs to acquire a function during this limited time. Genie- because of her isolation during the critical period of language acquisition, she was not able to fully reach normal levels of language. Developmental methodology: changes over time, cross-sectional, can tell us age differences but not that 5 vs. 10 year olds will perform the same 10 years. Different ages at the same time from now. Longitude method: age cohort- everybody born in the same year.
