Developmental psychology: the focus of developmental psychology is on how humans develop and change over time. Change can occur across the life span of the person: cradle to grave developmental psychology. Changed over time, something has altered or changed because of the passage of time. Stage theories, the stage you in or the stage you have to go through, there are exceptions to these stages and not all these stages relate to everybody. Core developmental issues: delineate the interacting forces of nature and nurture. Maturation: refers to biologically determined changes that follow an orderly sequence occurs in physical factors all these have stage theories: determine the importance of early experiences. Critical period example for cats covering their eyes for 4 months they don"t ever develop normal vision. Critical period for needed stimulation and vulnerability for example various outside factors like viruses: assess whether change is continuous or in qualitative stages.
