Document Summary

Experiment 2: determination of the product of a redox. The purpose of this lab is to determine the equation of a redox reaction by using experimental data. This experiment is performed in order to determine the nitrogen containing compound and a balanced equation can be determined for the following reaction. Moles of s2o32(initial) : n = m x v. Moles of na2s2o3 (initial): n = m x v. Bro3 + 9i + 6h3o+ br- + 3i3- + 9h2o + [i3- + 2s2o32- 3i- + s4o62-] x3. Bro3- +6s2o3- + 6h3o+ br- + 9h2o + 3s4o6- 1 mole of bro3 reacts to give 3 moles of i3- and 1 mole of i3. 1 mole of bro3 reacts with 6 moles of s2o3. Excess moles of kbro3: n1 kbro3 = 1. 56 x 10-3mol of na2s2o3 x. 6 mol na 2 s 2 o 3. Following the same steps above the excess kbro3 was calculated for the other two trials.
