Document Summary

It is a hidden success in medical biotech. Has seen 5 new drugs approved, almost all new drug classes it is one of the most successful disease for treatment. Battle lines, however, have been drawn between competition drugs in this indicationneutralizing antibodies reactions to different medications. A balance between the pro- and anti-inflammatory events in the intestinal mucosa may be of pathogenic importance in the chronic nature of crohn"s disease. It does not involve other tissues, it usually involves the bowel itself. It can make them prone to infections: chemotherapy is parallel to immunosuppression. It kills fast dividing cells (anything that is mitotically active): autoimmunity the immune system attacks the host. Eventually, we want to specifically delete the t cells and the b cells that produce antibodies that attack the cell host. Right now we don"t have this so we use the hammer = immunosuppression: there are different types of immunosuppression. Both large and small bowel can be infected.
