Small molecules can be made in 2 ways: synthetic, biological (through natural occurring compounds, can get the specific small molecules through extraction. How about devices or diagnostics: like biomedical devices, diagnostics are 2 types: in vitro and in vivo. Oligonucleotide-based (dna or rna drugs) are not medical biotechnology products. Medical device products: (2 different categories: commodity products, low profit margins, high customer price sensitivity, differentiated products, high profit margins, low customer price sensitivity. Compensate the low profit margin by more quantities sold. Diagnostics: small scale companies, large scale companies, diagnostic companies, focus on marketing, manufacture and distribution. Generally, customers are sensitive to the price of a commodity product.
