Document Summary

Lever system in all vertebrates is a byproduct of muscle structure and bones. Most common lever system in vertebrate system third class levers. Levers - there is a fulcrum where movement occurs, load which is object being moved and there is the force is where muscle generates action. There"s a point of origin and insertion. Origin is source where force is initiated (also called head) Insertion is point where muscle is attached that will be moved (also called slit) *page 395-410 discusses major muscle groups in textbook* - very helpful for lab. 2 muscles are inserting on distal part of limb - each muscle has different function and roles. Speed comes at price of load - load comes at price of speed. Move at greater distance with proximal insertion. Extend insertion to distal end allows more load but range of motion is reduced.
