Document Summary

Ribosome: a very large molecular unit: has a large and a small subunit. The large fxnal subunit is called 70s it is composed of 50s and 30s smaller units. In prok organism a typical cell could have approx. 100 00 ribosomes, euk on the other hand may have millions of ribosomes. A vast majority of the total rna is accounted for by rrna (ribosomal rna) To satisfy the demands of ribosomes in euk, there need to be enough genes that encode for it. Two genes code for rrna, one is designated for providing the 43s and the other for 5. 8s, 18s and 28s. The enzyme that transcribes these genes is the rna poly i- its main fxn- bind to dna molecule and transcribe it along the length, which codes for rrna. The primary transcript needs to be processed: involves cleavage of a small end of the 5" end and at the 3" end.
