Document Summary

Genetic info is stored in dna-this is referred to as our genotype-the exact order of the nucleotides is imp for the way in which proteins are expressed. The primary structure of dna encodes for the primary structure/sequence of. Even though the total number of a"s and g"s etc. could be the same it is the order that"s crucial and not the actual content. In eukaryotes in genome is located in the nucleus, mitochondria and chloroplast. Vast majority in the nucleus but small repositories are found in mitochondria and chloroplasts. Prokaryotes: genome found in nucleoid which is in close contact with cytoplasm. Gene: region of dna that controls a discrete genetic characteristic/trait. Example a blood type or the colour of the eye. Often a single trait will correspond to a single gene or a single rna molecule (connects to a biological entity) Many others are expressed based on more than one gene, or rna molecule or protein.
