Document Summary

What is the main point depicted in the figure. Bio202: lecture 3: january 21, 2019: gas transport. Respiratory membrane: membrane = diffusion difference (x, the smaller the x the more efficient the diffusion is (diffusion rate is higher) Instead of hemoglobin: mammalian deep divers store more o2 in myoglobin, animals that live in water use myoglobin first. Increase in temperature reduces o2 affinity of hemoglobin. Myoglobin would have an even steeper line, as it is really good for 02 affinity i. e. for flying or deep diving animals, acts as a reserve for exploring. Hemocyanin isn"t great at o2 pick-up, as it only picks 02 in higher pressure in o2. Somewhere in the steep part of the curve = due to o2 diffusion. Co2 picked up from cells in the tissue. Not in the lungs yet, carrying co2 so we can get it back to the lungs and get rid of it.
