Document Summary

System of granular tissues that produce/secrete special messenger molecules called hormones. Target hormones: target specific tissues and cells of body: parathyroid hormone regulates calcium levels in body (target bones, gastrin stimulates cells of stomach to produce digestive enzymes. Hormones mean to excite or set into motion regulates cell process by slowing or speeding. Of even the smallest amount of hormone as the body responds to change in external/internal env: high-power microscopes provide clearer pic of the structure of cell membrane better look at how chemical messengers attach themselves to target sites. Protein hormones: (insulin and growth hormones) contain chains of amino acids, varying in length and are soluble in water; they bind to specific receptor sites: produce enzymes in cytoplasm to carry out activities. Pituitary gland (cid:862)(cid:373)aster gla(cid:374)d(cid:863) exercises co(cid:374)trol over other e(cid:374)docri(cid:374)e gla(cid:374)ds. Small sac-like structure connected to hypothalamus via stalk 2 lobes: posterior & anterior lobe. Hormones secreted by pituitary gland and their functions :
