Document Summary

Pros: short generation time, large # offspring, can control mating between plants. True- breeding= over many generations, same variety as parent. White flower trait was in f2 generation. Me(cid:374)del"s model: alternate versions of genes account for variations in inherited character. Purple flower allele and white flower allele are 2 dna sequence variations at flower colour locus on a chromosome: for each character, organism inherits 2 copies of genes from each parent. If 2 alleles at locus are diff, one is recessive, one dominant: law of segregation. 2 alleles for a trait separate during gamete formation and end up in diff gametes. Half gametes have purple allele, half white. Homozygous= hair of identical alleles: pp, pp, true- breeding. Heterozygous= 2 different alleles for a gene: pp. Crossed 2 traits, yellow/ green, smooth/ wrinkled. Must be genes located on different chromosomes. Multiplication rule= mult one event by probability of another. Complete dominance= phenotype of heterozygote & dominant homozygote (red , white)
