Document Summary

Water connects all living organisms together; cells made of h20, need h20, etc. Water polar molecule; sharing of electrons unequally, polar covalent, attraction with oxygen and hydrogen, oxygen more electronegative; results in hydrogen bonding which influences many rxns. Surface tension (property of h20), surface of air and water, water molecule hold strong, result of tension little organisms are able to walk on water; don"t break through bc of h bonding. Heat of water; water being able to absorb heat from atmosphere and air, temp increases; water can also release heat when temp colder; coastal areas temp is more moderate than interior temperatures. Important in terms of survival or organisms in terms of moderation. Evaporative cooling; evaporation means liquid state to gas state. i. e. kettle water on heart boils; kinetic energy high, the molecules with highest heat are the ones that break apart and turn states. sweat to cool; plants have transpiration.
