Oil depletion and the collapse of the american dream. A family man, in league with the mob: built roadways, beaches, public parks, transformed neighbourhoods. Other technologies can be entirely political. (adopting a technology such as basing energy supply on fossil fuel) Peak oil - the point at which the maximum rate of extraction of existing supply is reached, after which more and more energy is required to extract the supply of lower quality resources. Peak oil point is reached at every oil eld individually, an oil producing country individually, and will eventually be a reality globally. Takes in form of a bell curve, once you"ve extracted 50%, the amount keeps going down. Hubbert, in 1956, made a prediction about peak oil - predicted that in 1970 it would peak. The levels observed more or less matched with what he predicted and have been declining ever since.
