Document Summary

Self-reports: participants are asked questions about their sexual behaviour or their attitudes about sexuality. Computer-assisted self-interview method (casi): the respondent lls out questionnaires on a computer: headphones and a soundtrack reading the questions can be added for young children or poor readers. Nb: magazine surveys cannot be trusted because it is impossible to determine if the sample is representative or to determine response rate. Self-reports: most researchers who measure attitudes about sexuality use self-reports. Implicit association test (iat): measures the relative strength of association an individual makes between different pairs of concepts: measures reaction time: we react quickly to two concepts that we associate strongly, can"t fake reaction times. Genital measures: assess arousal by using devices that measure erection in men and vaginal changes in women. Thermography: measures arousal by assessing temperature change: simply need a camera pointed at the genitals, but no devices attached to genitals.
