Psychology is a very young science (approximately 136 years) The topics of psychology are as young as humanity itself. Early greeks: wrote extensively on topics about sleep, dreams, cognition, sensation, perception, etc . The mind and the body are two distinct entities, but they act with each other to produce sensation, perception, emotion, etc . The mind-body connection is the strongest topic in psychology. The official birth of psychology was in 1879 in germany by w. wundt: he insisted that psychology should be an independent science, published the first article in psychology, psychology should study science and mental process. One of the first schools of thought was structuralism : titchener, a student of wundt, coined this term, the method used by titchener was introspection, sensory experioences. Functionalism: william james, goal: identify the adaptive value of conscious thoughts emotions and behaviours, believed humans, develop thinking because thinking is adaptive.
