A defense (greek word from which we get apology) In christianity, apology is defense of the faith (writing of that is called apologetics) Greek idea applies to the courtroom defense of yourself in court is your apology. Reading about the trial of socrates (socrates" defense) Prompted to ask this because the character of socrates is such a heroic one. True because socrates still has faults (makes him seem more human) He tells people things they don"t want to hear (this may make him more of a fictional character) References to real historical people present at the trial. Socrates also refers to the audience (which has many people) Can confirm that socrates existed in real life (written about by not only plato) Most of the people who were jurors and in the audience were still alive when apology was written. There was no objection to his account no claim that it was inaccurate. Most scholars believe this is an accurate account.
