Abnormality is a disease that needs to be cured. Ex: witch burning against cultural norm, (women were powerful because they went against the norm). Ex: gay was once against the cultural norm. Recurrent panic attacks unexpected anxiety attacks, that is interpreted as impending death. Phobia of an object but it is an irrational fear. There"s been no logical reason for the fear. Physical symptoms (muscle tension, dizziness, sweating, heart palpitations. Causes of anxiety disorders: biology, concordance rate. Anxiety order in twins is 35: anxiety sensitivity. Those highly sensitive to physical symptoms: learning, classical conditioning. Association/link in time between a non-fearful and fearful stimulus: operant conditioning. The anxiety gets rewarded: cognition: misinterpretation->focus- If we misinterpret a negative event or focus on the negative event, we only recall the bad parts: stress and vulnerability. Lose important personal info, associated with that event. Loss of memory of entire life and/or identity. Troubled by extremes at both ends of the continuum.
