Social stratification: attributes like age, gender, race, religion, that people will evaluate you on based on societal views, some will be views superior to others based on this, certain age groups may be ranked higher, men, ethnic groups. Differences can foster integration, or can promote isolation for certain groups (65 yr old man viewed better than 65 yr old woman) Slums people are often not ranked very high. This ranking can lead to uneven access to opportunities to resources for people. Ascribed attributes: stable, given to you, (race, ethnicity, gender) Stereotypes about aging are based on chronological age. Mostly negative, many of them given by the media, but its changing to positive now.
