Mobility: ability to move permanently or temporarily, it is a broad term describing a wide array of human movement. Migration: long distance move to a new location (immigration going, emigration leaving) Interest in the experiences of migration and the outcomes for the migrating population. New questions about who and why migrate. Migration studies: description, analysis, theorization of movement of people from one place or country to another. Neo-classical economies: people move because of wage or economic opportunities. Political economy: migration as an integral part of the working of the capitalist system, a focus on structure. Migration would look different if we weren t capitalist, there would be different opportunities. Migrations as a social process: focuses on individuals, people move for the sake of their children, this research focuses on social motivations.
