Sex the biological designation of male or female. Gender the culturally/socially constructed roles of femininity or masculinity. The idea that biology is destiny and fundamentally determines all behaviors and actions. The reduction of a group of people to an essential of what it is to be a member of that group. Ex boys will be boys and girls will be girls. Separated biological sex from socially constructed gender roles based on different cultures between men and women from different societies. One is not born a women but becomes one the second sex, 1949: nature has a part in shaping us, sex does not determine gender. Denaturalize inequity between men and women: the inequalities that women suffer in society are not due to our supposedly inferior nature, but are caused by historical processes that called upon nature" to justify that inequality. Characteristics stereotypes we assign to masculinity and femininity. Mirror binaries that one depend on the other, so its opposite.
