Sex : biological designation of male or female. Gender : the culturally/socially constructed roles of femininity or masculinity. Gender binary: non consensual assignment of gender (p. 44 of the readings) Biological determinism: belief that biology fundamentally determines all behaviour and actions. Essentialism: reduction of a group of people to an essential idea of what it means to be a member of that group. Example of an essentialist argument is that " girls aren"t good in math" - a girl who is having difficulties in math is having a hard time because she is a girl.
