Document Summary
System- a network of relaionships among parts of elements or components that interact with and inluence one another. Receives inputs of energy, mater, or informaion; processes these inputs; and produces outputs. Feedback loop- a system"s output serves as input. Negaive feedback loop- output that results from a system moving in one direcion acts as input that moves the system in the other direcion. Leads to dynamic equilibrium---limit changes in a system. Posiive feedback loop- instead of stabilizing a system, it drives it further toward one extreme or another: negaive feedback stabilizes systems. Posiive feedback destabilizes systems, pushing them toward extremes. Dynamic equilibrium- system processes move in opposing direcions at equivalent rates, balancing their efects. Homeostasis= a system maintains constant or stable internal condiions. Emergent properies= system characterisics not evident in the components alone------ the whole is more than the sum of the parts. Environmental eniies are complex systems that interact with each other.
