Protection of non-human species in human activities: Indirect/ direct effect of the environment: creating a bridge over the rideau canal; we do not have to harm the fishes habitat. However, we may cause threat indirectly to fish habitat. This harm can happen through economic development or project. Protected areas are vital to the ecological and biological processes that are essential to the preservation of life. Important for the survival of wildlife, maintenance of ecosystems. Fresh water, clean air, protection of soil, climate regulations etc. They are part of the ecosystem and essential to life. Iucn protect areas: 7 categories of protected areas. Federal protected areas: manages national wildlife areas and migratory bird. Federal government manages 50% of land in canada"s protected areas sanctuaries. Fisheries and oceans canada: establishes marine protected areas. Two exam quesions will be: constitutional allocation of environmental responsibilities, species at risk.
