Current violent conflicts in the world (in order of urgency) We will be studying these conflicts because they are recent in history and they are over, therefore we can discuss why they are over, what happened, how it was solved etc. Former yugoslavia: bosnia (1992-1995, kosovo (1998-1999) Causes of conflicts: denying basic liberal human rights. Consequences of conflict: rape, child soldiers, torture, genocide, extrajudicial killings, reification of identity, mobilization. Antagonistic (hostility or opposition: no potential compromise, rejection of third-party, last for an extended period of time, Express and articulate particular grievance(s) and interest(s). Can lead to positive social transformation and integration. War and security studies: organized violence, prevention, de-escalation, and solution conflicts. Peace and conflicts studies: reasons for and preventions of war, social and political violence, social oppression, discrimination. War (armed conflict) as one form of conflict. A state of armed conflict between different countries or different groups within a country . Low intensity: less than 1000 deaths.
